DISTINGUISHED SERVICE – Dr. Gert Walter of Boxborough leads very distinct professional lives.

At Emerson Hospital in Concord, he is an emergency physician and medical director of advance life support services. In Acton, he recently celebrated the first anniversary as a partner in Medical Aesthetics of New England, a medical spa offering acne and facial rejuvenation treatments. "I like the slower pace [of the medical spa] and getting to spend more time with patients," he said. "They’re very different [roles] and I enjoy doing both."

Walter was recently presented with the Distinguished Service Award from the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians for his service to the organ-ization. A former board member and national councilor who served as presi-Dent of the organization in 2000 and 2001, he has previously received the college’s President Award and Vanguard Award in recognition of his service to patients and emergency medicine.

Walter has also worked extensively with the state Department of Public Health to help implement the Massachu-setts Stroke Service Center Program for hospitals and improve emergency medical services across the state.
